Surgeon Lauded
A continuing goal of the Florida Legislature is patient safety. However, these goals are sometimes difficult to accomplish because of different interests with different views. This year, because of the continued dedication and leadership of a local plastic surgeon, Dr. Enrique Fernandez and the Florida Society of Plastic Surgeons, as well as the support of Sen. Mike Bennett, the Legislature was able to pass HB 587, known as the Truth in Medical Education (TIME) bill. The bill requires full and complete disclosure of the licensing and training of health care practitioners so patients can safely make informed decisions. This bill, which was supported by the Florida Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Florida Medical Association, reaffirms the high standards that the medical profession seeks for its own members.
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Dr. Fernandez, the Florida Society of Plastic Surgeons, and Sen. Mike Bennett for helping secure these protections for patients in Florida.
